Water of Life

by Craig Howell

As the mist of ancient times transforms into droplets before our eyes, melting into the ground seeking its source, so do we follow water's journey. We must. For without our source, we are nothing. Water is life and rebirth, the cycle of eons. It runs through our veins and rushes through our hearts. Water is a liquid love, eternally infused within all things on earth.

In our quest for complete and lasting wholeness, we seek to touch and embrace that which is closest to that ideal. It is no wonder that we are drawn to immerse ourselves in water, the holiest of physical vehicles, in a re-connection to our most primal self. As we feel this connection, for a moment we are whole; we are one with our source. And so we return to the water, again…and again.

To obtain wholeness, we must heal. It is a life's work. It is not just the wounds of the body, or the mind, or the emotions that need tending. It is gaining an awareness of the grand sum of who we are as a soul, and a realization of why we are here on earth. This is the final healing. Healing is a state of mind and an open heart. It is a process often set into motion through crisis. For in crisis, we focus. It is a great lesson. Yet every day brings an opportunity for healing, if we are aware and open. As I heal, I unravel and discard the old and the useless as I go, gaining acceptance, which brings peace, which brings wholeness.

And so I seek.

By our desire to be whole, to be as one, we are brought gifts from Spirit. Some gifts are a simple spiritual knowing; a new or renewed conviction in the sanctity and holiness of physical existence. Some gifts are tangible miracles, unexplainable, mysterious and life-changing. Although we as souls are already whole, already one with all things, we experience oneness most times as only a fleeting feeling of upliftment or inspiration; a brief sense of euphoria; an anointment of temporal perfection. These moments whet our senses with excitement, and we begin to search for that which is deeper, more permanent, that which seems to be just within our grasp.

And so we seek.

It is my wish that we all may live a simple existence, flowing like the water from one event to another with ease, healing all that we touch, calming and soothing as we go. Water does not judge. It simply keeps on moving. It knows that its physical condition is temporary, and that in the last refinement there is perfection. It is malleable and magnetized to whatever vibration is near, yet its destination is always somewhere else.

And so it seeks.

In the yearning for a deeper connection to the water, we bring ourselves in contact with the Divine. We bring to water what it seeks -- purity. And it brings to us what we seek -- healing and wholeness. Our energies find each other in the mist of the ancients, in the heart of the Christos, and entwine in memory of the highest and the deepest of love to become as one, holy.

Through our innocent longing, we have stumbled upon that which seemed to be just out of reach, something surpassing any earthly expectation and exceeding any thrill we could imagine. For in seeking each other, we have found God.
