2004, Green Wood Monkey Year

Those who prefer predictability and convention, wince."

The yearly procession of animals in the Chinese zodiac have more to say than just the animal symbolism. There are wood years, metal years, fire years, water and earth years. There are also cycles and specific colors that go along with any one of these elements for each year. A year can also be yin or yang.

Right now we are entering the Green Wood Monkey year (yang), 2004. All in all, a monkey year is one of ups and downs and unpredictability. Get ready for upsets and reversals. This has already happened, if anyone has been watching the Democratic political contest. In one night, the front-runner was unseated -- possibly for the rest of the race. Let's wait and see what surprises may await in November as we select a new president.

So it goes in a Monkey year -- things change on a dime, so be ready. Roll with the events. This year is anything but normal. Monkey years have also seen surprises by Mother Nature. Hurricane Andrew and the Mount St. Helens eruption both occurred in Monkey years.

This year is in the beginning of Metal cycle (which lasts for two years) and represents gold, jewelry, money and financial business. It is said that these are the things that one may have luck in.

Monkey may have some schemes to try to get you on board with, so be careful where you invest your time and money. The enthusiastic Monkey may or may not have all the information. However, gambles can pay off big time as well. Risk is rewarded in a Monkey year.

" I am the seasoned traveler
of the Labyrinth,
the genius of alacrity,
wizard of the impossible.
My brilliance is yet unmatched
in its originality.
My heart is filled with potent magic
that could cast a hundred spells...
I am monkey"

There is a duplicitous side to the energy of this year. There is the urge to say whatever needs to be said in order to get what one wants. Monkey is the closest to man in his capacity for great talent, cleverness and problem solving, but also the capacity for deceit.

The most powerful time in a Monkey year is the spring time. So start something new in the spring or make a new start, and watch the magic happen. This is the time of growth and prosperity of this cycle. This is because of the Wood influence, which is good for expansion of any enterprise. Even in time of recession, Monkey years help business to keep going or even grow. It at least fosters an optimistic outlook and an ability to solve intricate problems with clever solutions.

Although the animals change each year, a sign (like Monkey) combined with an element (like Wood) comes up again and completes a full cycle only once in every 60 years. The last complete cycle for the entire zodiac began in 1984, so we are leaving the first third of the grand cycle until the culmination in 2043. We are entering a 20 year cycle called 8 Star. This has to do with young men rising to positions of power.

1944 was the last Wood Monkey year in the 60 year cycle, preceded by 1884, 1824, 1764, 1704, 1644. Let's just look at 1944. The USA was in the midst of a world war, brought on by a man in Germany who was expanding his enterprise, so to speak. But Americans and the Allies had a bold Monkey plan: they created and implemented D-Day, the surprise invasion of the German forces, and won. The risk paid off.

Chinese Astrology is just one of many ways to use symbols to help us to be aware of the energies present during a cycle. If we know what is available to use, we can help ourselves and others as we benefit from a little wisdom from the Oriental perspective.

Happy Monkey Year.

¤ To find your exact sign and element that you were born under, go here. It is an excellent site on Chinese Astrology and interpretation.

¤ This was posted by Raymond Lo at his site. It was part of a presentation given in March 2003 just before the war in Iraq in which he correctly predicted that Saddam would fail and fade through I-Ching and Chinese Astrology. Then he said, "Lady Diana died in a tunnel – trapped in Earth element. It will not be surprising that Saddam will face the similar circumstance, surrounded in earth in his final days." Saddam was just recently found in a hole in the ground. Amazing. His site: www.raymond-lo.com.
